BOCAGE DU HAVRE

Le Havre, France

What happens when a vintage 'bocage' pattern of Normandy countryside weaves into a surreal fabric of a vast port in the Seine estuary. A new utopian neighbourhood is born where perimeter residential buildings surround a highly productive and highly nostalgic agricultural network. The network which does not just provide new jobs but also blurs the line between agricultural, residential and public space where irrigation reservoirs become the places of self-reflection; where people are funnelled through sweaty and illuminated walls of glasshouses into a recreational orchard or a maze of walled crop rooms, where obscure vegetables and horticultural knowledge are nurtured, and where a healthy relation between food and people is rediscovered.
